Leadership: Lessons from the Field

Interscholastic athletics are often touted as an extension of the classroom. In New York State, the Educational Framework for Interscholastic Athletics calls on school personnel to promote high standards of competence, character, civility and citizenship, along with a commitment to develop individual and team potential. The life lessons learned through participation in sport include teamwork, time management, resilience, integrity, self-reflection, self-motivation and collaboration. These traits are the bedrock of effective leadership.
